Single Subject Credential

The Single Subject Credential Program is approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) for the preparation of teachers earning Preliminary Single Subject Credentials. The BATC/SFSU Credential Program integrates theory with practice in the classroom.

The Credential Program is an intense, one-year program traditionally beginning in August and ending the following July. It is possible however, to enroll at the beginning of either the fall or spring semester. Participants will receive a Preliminary Single Subject Teaching Credential and will be given five years to earn their Professional Clear Credential.

SFSU and the Bay Area Teachers Center
San Francisco State University and the Bay Area Teachers Center are committed to offering a unique approach to professional development for teaching professionals. Participants will create a community of educators who will study, work, and reflect together during the one-year program. The BATC offers credentials in the same subject areas as SFSU (Art, English, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, Science, and Social Science).

All course work, except for the subject specific curriculum and instruction courses (which must be taken in the fall and spring semesters on the SFSU campus), will be held in late afternoon/evenings and occasionally on Saturdays at Lick-Wilmerding High School. Registration for all courses will be facilitated by the BATC.

"I appreciated the personal care and guidance given to me at the BATC as I made my way through the credential maze. I would recommend this program to anyone interested in a single subject credential who wants someone to help."
